Andrew's 1st birthday

Andrew Sebastian celebrated his first birthday on January 29th. We baked a simple cake for him (Daddy's favorite flavors, since Andrew can't possibly have a preference!) and celebrated after sledding and dinner. Our tradition is that for the first birthday, the baby feeds themselves the first piece of cake. Andrew enjoyed the process and got a little messy! Happy birthday, little buddy!

Happy Birthday, Andrew! Love the sticky cake mess. We do that too and it's so fun to watch them.

Hi - I live in Eagle River, AK, right down the hwy from Anchorage, and I have questions! Have you always lived out there? When and why did you decide to live out there? Do you get stir crazy? How do people make a living out there? Do you have so many kids because of religion? I am so intrigued by you and your life - it sounds so nice, but I'm not sure I could do it myself....anyway, stay warm!

Hi there Taking Chances, thanks for the comment!

I am just "from" Alaska. Born in Haines, grew up in Wasilla, left for a couple years, moved back to Wasilla and we moved out to Bethel in 2003.

We moved due to my husband being offered a promotion - most people out here that aren't FROM here are here for a job. We stay because things are good here. It doesn't mean we love everything about it - we don't - but it's worked out well for us.

Do I get stir crazy? Not as much as I used to. I used to have to get on a plane every 3 months and go to Anchorage just to stay sane. Now, I don't need that as much. I still go out several times a year, but as for "needing" to go - probably twice a year.

How do we make a living - quite simply, people get paid more here. We have housing provided by my husband's employer. It's a carrot to get people to move out here that a lot of employers will offer.

Why do I have "so many" kids?? LOL... because we love children. I am religious, but no, I do not have children "because" of religion. I would have my family regardless of my religious beliefs.
