Friday fun

Lame title for a blog post but there you go!

We started the day by oversleeping. Or at least I did, by about 30 minutes. So I had 20 minutes to get 3 kids up and dressed, fed, lunches made, hair brushed (x1) and out the door to the bus, and then the second shift up, fed and in the car and to our local daily Mass by 9am.

We don't normally go to daily Mass but made a point to attend because our visiting priest was celebrating his 23rd anniversary of ordination today and had talked on Sunday about what a big deal it was in the Philippines. So Allen and I decided to both go, along with the 3 younger kids.

I had been entertaining thoughts of going to stations of the cross with all 6 this evening but Mass cured me of that notion quite quickly. The kids were "good" but had I been alone I probably would've left just over halfway through. Aidan required hands on entertainment and jiggling and at some point Rosalie was "hugging" Andrew causing him to say "no no no no no"... You get the idea. So since Allen has a prior commitment tonight, we will perhaps look for an online stations we can appreciate at home instead of doing the church soup & salad dinner and stations afterwards. It was a nice idea but it clarified that right now is not the time in my life that I'll be attending daily mass.

After Mass concluded Allen headed off to work and I went across town to a playgroup that we normally enjoy attending... Putting $107, 27.8 gallons of gas in my suburban on the way! Playgroup wasnt as enjoyable as it normally is for me... One of my good friends wasn't there, and some other kid took an interest in "playing" with me. I play with kids all the time it he was fixated on trying to give me a checkup with a fake otoscope and dental mirror. I ended up hiding those tools the minute that kid wandered away (he kept on looking for them. I volunteered nothing). Meanwhile his mom was chatting away 4 feet away. I decided to leave when this same kid pelted me with duplo blocks after dumping the entire bag out in front of me. I wouldn't tolerate that from my own kid, certainly not from one I don't have to be around! So I tempted Andrew and Rosalie home with promises of mac and cheese for lunch (which thy ate massive quantities of) and we got out of there.

Right now the kids are finishing up 2nd and 3rd helpings and I'm listening to the plow trucks clean up yet another snowfall.
